I belong to an amazing member paper crafting site called StampNation and every year they have an amazing set of challenges for World Card Making Day. Last year I was on their WCMD Design Team, this year I just get to play along as a member and be in the running to win some of the amazing prizes donated by the equally fabulous sponsor companies..
So far there have been 5 challenges and I have just finished making cards for each one. I know more challenges will come overnight and I will be playing catch-up during the week.
So get ready for a very long post sharing the challenges and the cards that I made.
Challenge 1 was to make a scenery card (beach, mountains, sunset, forest etc.) – Scenery cards are not really my forte so I turned to a Stampin Up set called ‘Moon Lake’ which made it easier and stamped in Versafine and clear heat embossed to set it. I then used my Zig markers to roughly water-colour the image, mounted it on a green and blue layer and added some twine to finish it off.
Challenge 2 was to create a card with embossing paste, fluff, texture paste or the like which simulates snow – I used stamp sets from Kanban – Reindeer & snowflakes (sentiment) and Hera Arts – Winter Trees. I then added white puff paint to where the snow was falling and along the group and hear set it to make it puff.
Challenge 3 was to create a card using sea creatures, mermaids or inspired by the colours of the Great Barrier Reef – On this one I used a background stamp from Altenew called Tiny Bubbles which I heat embossed in white and then smooched Catherine Pooler Designs inks in It’s a Boy, Aquatini, Fiesta Blue & Something Borrowed on to my craft mat, wet them and then dabbed my background piece in it until I was happy with the colours. I then added a sentiment banner and fish from Unity Stamps called Fishy Philosophy. The fish I coloured with my Zig markers and then popped up on dimensions.
Challenge 4 was to create a card using something ‘old’ from your stash or something to do with a person becoming older or distressing techniques – With this challenge I took the path of an older birthday card with a touch of shabby chic.
I used a stamp set from Unity Stamps called – No Regrets, stamped with Catherine Pooler Designs ink in Black Jack and It’s a Girl sponged around the edges. The paper flowers, pearls and dotty background piece are from my scraps pile.
I love the sassiness of this card.
Lastly Challenge 5 was a photo inspiration card based on flamenco dancing – I was inspired by the black and red dresses of the flamenco dancers.
For this card I CASEd my birthday card I received from Kristie Goulet and I used stamps sets from Catherine Pooler Designs – Best in You and PTI – Birthday Bash Sentiments. The inks are all CP Designs – Rocking Red, Black Jack, Lime Rickey and Garden Party with some added sequins for final finish.
Phew, that was a lot of crafting today. Thanks for looking.
